It is on, little sis'.
Sometimes I learn what I'm going to be doing this week by reading my wife's LJ page. Which is wierd, but also, very effective. I have a place to look back. I actually get a weekly email saying what she's going to be doing, but I leave my personal life such a mess, I could never compile such an email. This week, on Thursday, the Des Moines Junior Chamber will be electing their 2009 officers. As the outgoing president, I'll have the position of Chairman of the Board, which means, no responsibility/authority except to attend board meetings and be bored. If I don't take some other office, that will give me back a super amount of time back. I find as the end of the year draws near, and my term expires, I look forward to it more and more.
On the other hand, there are a number of jobs in the Jaycees I'd still like to do, so who knows.
Then on Saturday, we (the Des Moines Jaycees) take 40 underprivileged (I hate that euphemism) kids shopping to buy gifts for their families, which we call the "Holiday Shopping Tour." If doing that doesn't lift your spirits, you might be a scrooge. At the end, we give all the Kids a present to keep, since they just bought something for everyone in their family. Earlier this year, while I was working the door of the Haunted House, one of guys in the line asked me what we did with the money from the House, and I told him one of the things was the Holiday Shopping Tour. He said he had done that when he was a kid, and started telling me what he bought each of his family members, and he asked me if the woman who went shopping with him, whose name he knew, was still a member. (Which she wasn't.) It's neat to see that someone touched this kid's life one day enough for him to remember their name more than a decade later, and it probably didn't cost more than $50. Moments like that make me really glad I don't work with (cringe) underprivileged kids anymore. Doing it professionally sucks all the fun out of it.
